Three men from the Famagusta district aged 27, 36 and 44 and another from Nicosia, 35, were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder two weeks ago of 33-year-old Gary Boris Christodoulou, who was found dead with two bullets to his head near the motorway just outside Ayia Napa.
The four men, all Greek Cypriots, were arrested at around noon after police secured testimony linking them to the case.
They are expected to be taken to court on Thursday to be remanded.
Christodoulou was found dead – with two gunshots to his head – late on November 1, in an acacia grove around 100 metres from his car, which had been driven into a ditch next to the hard shoulder of the Rizoelia to Ayia Napa road motorway.
His body was found after a passer-by had reported to police earlier that night that she had seen a car which seemed to have been involved in an accident on the motorway, around a kilometre from the roundabout that leads to Paralimni.
The post mortem revealed that Christodoulou received four gunshots, two to the head and two to his upper body. He was known to police in relation with past drugs cases.
Reports speculated that the killing could be linked to a gangland shooting at an Ayia Napa restaurant in June 2016 in which four people died, including a police officer and his wife who were having dinner with an underworld figure. Christodoulou, according to reports, worked at an establishment in Ayia Napa that belonged to one of the people jailed for that incident.
