Three men were arrested on Tuesday, after a motorcycle – thought to be connected to an attempted gangland hit on Monday – was found in Pallouriotissa, Nicosia, police said.
Police were not able to confirm that the motorcycle was the one believed to have been used in the murder attempt on Nicos Rodotheou, but authorities said it looked like it, and that tests would be conducted on it.
In the afternoon, police arrested the three men, two Greek Cypriots, 34 and 28, and a Palestinian, 32, for illegal possession of the motorcycle.
On Monday night, unknown individuals on a motorcycle fired shots at Rodotheou, 57, in Nicosia but missed, police said.
He was on Ethnikis Frouras Street when the assailants fired five shots at the rear of his vehicle at around 11pm.
The motorcycle then accelerated and left the area.
Police said they were treating the incident as attempted murder.
Rodotheou is the brother of businessman Andros Rodotheou who was gunned down while at a friend’s house at the village of Gerasa, Limassol in April last year.
Andros Rodotheou was shot while standing behind a glass door. The shooter or shooters are believed to have shot him from the opposite bank of a river that runs outside the home.
The 61-year-old was struck by a single bullet, puncturing his spinal cord and rupturing his abdominal aorta – the largest artery in the abdominal cavity – leading to profuse bleeding.
